I Tried the New Supergoop Glowscreen and Now It's Golden Hour All the Time

After the success of its Sunrise hue, Supergoop just launched a bronze version of Glowscreen called Golden Hour, and Allure has the exclusive details.

We've said it once and we'll say it again: you must wear sunscreen every single day. Whether you're indoors, outdoors, it's sunny, or rainy — it's essential. If there's one brand that always gets sun protection right, it's Supergoop. The brand has been a major success with its wide selection of SPF formulas in its Play, Unseen, and Glowscreen lines. Glowscreen was always a one-man show with its universal shade name Sunrise, until today. Supergoop's Glowscreen in Golden Hour is here for all your (and my) glowy bronze dreams.

If you've never tried the original, Best of Beauty-winning Glowscreen, it's a lightweight sunscreen that provides SPF 40 and seamlessly melts into all complexions, leaving behind a subtle pearlescent finish. The latest addition, Golden Hour, offers the same level of sun protection and skin-nourishing ingredients as the original. The formula is spiked with a blend of hydrating hyaluronic acid and sea lavender and skin-plumping vitamin B5, as well as niacinamide to help even out your skin tone.

So, what makes this new launch different? I spoke with the founder of Supergoop, Holly Thaggard, for the answers. "The formula is exactly the same in both hues, so the only real difference is that Golden Hour gives off a slight glow in its tint while the original, Sunrise, is more of a champagne finish," she says. The founder adds that this launch is really for its beloved fans. "The Supergoop community repeatedly told us how much they loved the original Glowscreen formula, so we were excited to expand our lineup even further by offering another warm, wearable shade that we know our customers will love," she tells Allure.

I have been using Golden Hour for a few weeks now prior to its launching. At first swatched, I was a bit worried that the tint would be too dark for fairer complexions. To ensure it worked across all skin tones, I took my sample through the Allure office and made everyone test it out, confirming that the hue does work on everyone. Thaggard also confirmed this, noting, "because the formula is so sheer and blendable, the bronzey hue works beautifully on a wide array of skin tones." It's true — this formula melts into skin, leaving behind the most beautiful sheen of dewiness with zero white cast.

Commerce editor Sarah Han, who has fairer skin, said that Glowscreen Golden Hour gave her the healthiest glow she's ever witnessed on her complexion. "I've always shied away from self-tanners (maybe one day I'll have the guts!) and this SPF warms up my skin tone beautifully and produces similar results without any commitment."

I applied the proper amount of Glowscreen's liquidy formula to my skin and neck, which New York City-based board-certified dermatologist Marisa Garshick, MD, previously told Allure is two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. "For the face, it is recommended to apply a nickel-sized dollop — the equivalent of two-finger lengths, which is also equivalent to half a teaspoon, to the face and neck combined," she adds. After applying the formula to my hands, I warmed it between my palms and slathered it on my freshly cleansed face and neck. I immediately noticed a brighter complexion that had a warm tone to it. There's a subtle shimmer in the finish, too which I enjoyed because it didn't make me look too glittery or shiny.

Truthfully, I fell in love with how this sunscreen looked on my skin alone. But to give a full review, I layered it on my everyday makeup routine and it totally worked. The sunscreen meshed well with all of my base products like my concealer and blush, and they layered on flawlessly with no patchiness or pilling at all. I even found myself skipping foundation because I really just wanted all the glow this product gave.
