About Allure
Who We Are
Hello! Welcome to Allure. We are thrilled you want to learn more about our team and what we do here. We strive to bring honest, innovative, inspiring content to our readers, whether you’re taking it in on your phone screen or via your local newsstand. At Allure, we believe that makeup and hair are globally significant artforms, that “anti-aging” is a terrible idea, and that everyone’s beauty deserves to feel included and celebrated.
Our rigorous reporting and fact-checking, highly anticipated annual Best of Beauty Awards, and commitment to creative exploration have made Allure the leading publication in beauty journalism for over 30 years—not to mention AdWeek’s Magazine of the Year award in 2017, among other accolades.

Editorial Standards & Methodology
Whether we’re sharing dispatches from South Korea on the next big injectable trend or doing a deep dive into a buzzy new ingredient making its way into skin-care products, our editorial team maintains meticulous research and reporting standards.
Allure strives to bring you up-to-the-minute news and information—but our team believes in looking before jumping. In journalistic terms, this means we verify all information before passing it along to our readers and followers. To ensure anything and everything you read in Allure is accurate, reliable, and based firmly in science and expertise, we work only with leading experts in dermatology, plastic surgery, psychology, and other branches of medicine, as well as the industry’s top beauty professionals t. And when those experts disagree? We keep digging until we find consensus and the strongest guidance possible.
Testing each and every product (and debating, and retesting, and fact-checking…) that gets featured on Allure is what made us the most trusted name in beauty—and what made our little red seal become synonymous with the best of the best.
Not only do we value the faith you put in our words and opinions, we respect how hard our readers work for their money and would never recommend a product that we did not try, test, and truly love ourselves, whether it’s a $15 face moisturizer or a $150 limited-edition fragrance. This is what made Allure the most trusted name in beauty—and how our little red seal became synonymous with the best of the best.

Every product you see recommended on Allure has been independently tested and hand-picked by a member of our editorial team—there’s nothing we tell you to buy that we would not purchase and use ourselves. When you click on an Allure link to purchase a product, we may earn an affiliate commission, which helps us keep the lights on.
The Allure Best of Beauty Awards
Since 1996, Allure’s Best of Beauty Awards seal—a.k.a. that little red circle that instantly tells you a product is definitely worth it—has been awarded only to the best, brightest, and most innovative products in the beauty market.
Curious to learn more about how we test all the products that ultimately win our prestigious award? Here’s everything you need to know about Allure’s Best of Beauty Awards, including how to submit your own brand’s products for consideration in next year’s awards.
To find out the most recent batch of prestigious products to earn their spot in Allure’s Best of Beauty history books, see our full 2021 Best of Beauty Award-winners list.
We are now accepting submissions for Allure's 2022 Best of Beauty Awards. Here's how to get your product in front of our editors.
List the beauty products you'd like to submit for Best of Beauty, organized by Best of Beauty categories (you can refer to last year's awards or email us at allurebestofbeauty@condenast.com for a full list of this year's categories).
Order your submissions by launch date (newest to oldest), and email them to us at allurebestofbeauty@condenast.com. You can submit a product with a launch date of anywhere between the dawn of time and September 15, 2022 (it must be available for purchase by mid-September when the awards are announced). Limited-edition products will not be considered. Once we review all submissions, we will reach out to request the samples we need for testing and any other additional information.
After reviewing all submissions, the Allure team will contact you to request samples for testing purposes. In order to make our testing process more sustainable, we ask that each brand limit submissions of products that launched in the last 12 months to THREE PER MAJOR CATEGORY:
- Skin
- Body
- Hair
- Makeup (Eyes)
- Makeup (Lips)
- Makeup (Base)
- Nails
- Tools
- Scent
In order to support the highly rigorous and painstaking testing, reviewing, and assessment processes we utilize for our Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award, which celebrates only the most revolutionary and innovative products in the industry each year, we are requiring a $350 entry fee per product submission. To find out more, please read the complete Allure Best of Beauty 2022 Submission Guidelines.
For any further questions not answered in our FAQ, you can contact allurebestofbeauty@condenast.com.
Our testing process is intensive, research-based, and multilevel. In addition to the many beauty experts across our editorial team, we work closely with cosmetic chemists, makeup artists, dermatologists, hair stylists, and manicurists to compile a full-picture review of any given product.

Introduced in 2019, the Allure Best of Beauty Clean Seal is awarded to the top products that meet our rigorous performance standards—and our very specific clean standard (because we all know the word “clean” can be pretty murky when applied to beauty products). To learn about the excluded ingredients, guidelines, how we test, and how to submit, you can read all about Allure’s Clean Best of Beauty Seal here.
Allure’s Sustainability Pledge
When it comes to sustainability and ethics, Allure is committed to helping the beauty industry be the very best it can be. Transparency and clarity are essential to that mission.
In 2021, Allure made a detailed commitment to readers to avoid terms that we believe can mislead consumers. We no longer refer to any packaging as “recyclable” (only 9 percent of all plastics ever made have been turned into something useful!), nor do we refer to products as “biodegradable” unless we are being extremely specific about what that means with regard to that specific item’s impact on the environment. We’ll never, ever use the term “earth-friendly”—no product can avoid impacting the earth unless it is nonexistent—and we will only use the word “green” to describe something that is literally verdant in color.
