IT'S A WRAP

The Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Just Got an Upgrade Here's My Honest Opinion

The heatless hair tool that took social media by storm, has been re-engineered, welcoming even more hair types, and textures with additional attachment options.

Find yourself on the hairstyling side of #beautytok, and you'll eventually see it. The heatless, air-sucking wonder that re-imagined our notions of a styling tool. I'm speaking, of course, about the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler, which has proven to be the gift that keeps on giving for the brand. It launched back in 2018, but even as recently as 2021, it's enjoyed a resurgence in popularity on TikTok

As someone who knows her way around an Airwrap, it makes a lot of sense. The barrel's built to create something called the Coanda effect, which uses high-velocity air to dry, smooth, and suck your strands into the shape of a curl. "The motor in the Airwrap spins to create an area of high pressure at the top of the styling barrel," Dyson engineering lead Veronica Alanis previously told Allure

And as cool as the process looks, what's even better is the tool works as a blow-dryer, so you can create a frizz-free (or frizz-minimal) style be it smooth, wavy, or volume-packed

But the folks at Dyson could not be content with creating something great — they had to make it even more perfect. The brand's brilliant engineers got together to one-up us with new-and-improved Airwrap attachments, which you can purchase right now for $39 each.

These next-generation Airwrap attachments include the Coanda smoothing dryer, which has two modes you can switch between without ever having to swap attachments. Choose the pre-styling mode for drying damp and straight-out-of-the-shower-wet hair, then for the finishing touch, switch to smoothing mode, ridding your hair of those pesky flyaways while adding shine.

Dyson also reinvented its firm and soft brush attachments (available in two sizes). These new ones are designed to allow more airflow between the rows of bristles to straighten your hair more efficiently, making your at-home blowout look extra soft and shiny.

Last, but definitely not least, Dyson has updated its iconic Airwrap curling barrels. Good news: You will no longer need to swap between the left and right arrow-facing barrels included in the original version. These barrels spin both clock- and counter-clockwise — just turn the wand right or left while it's on the base to feel the airflow in the direction you choose.

Once I got my hands on the new attachments (which are also compatible with the original model), I put them to the test. After showering, I gave my waves a chance to air-dry halfway before going in with a leave-in conditioning spray and dividing my hair into six sections. I stretched my waves out with the Coanda smoothing dryer in "pre-styling mode". Once I gave my hair a rough dry, it was time for some extra finessing.

Using the large firm brush, I  brushed through my strands to smooth them out. Once my hair was straight — a.k.a. the opposite of what it looks like naturally — I gave my ends a subtle wave. All it took was a little flick of the wrist and a few passes with the firm brush for bouncy ends

I say this with the pun very much intended: the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler's new attachments made smoothing out my thick, wavy hair a breeze. Grab yours today on dyson.com for $599 or pick up the attachments for $39 each (or as a complete set of attachments for $199).
