When you hear people say they're getting Botox, you probably assume that means facial injections. But nowadays, there's a growing group of men trying out Botox in a completely different part of their body: their balls.
Botox injected into testicle skin to make balls look smoother and larger has been dubbed "Scrotox", and while it's not exactly common, demand for it appears to be on the rise. GQ reported that in addition to giving balls a rounder and fuller appearance, Scrotox can also mean less testicular sweating and more sensitivity during sex.
There has been some research on Scrotox's other uses. One 2014 study, for example, found that Botox may to help temporarily decrease scrotal pain and tenderness; the problem, of course, is that men have to continually receive the treatment to keep pain at bay. A 2015 study also suggested that Botox can alleviate scrotal inflammation and chronic pain when surgical intervention hasn't been effective enough.
As for what does getting Scrotox actually entails, Botox is injected into the testicle skin several times after a numbing cream is applied. There's pretty much no downtime, and patients can expect to enjoy their results for three to four months. Health reports that each session can cost from $500 to $1,000. One thing to keep in mind: It's possible Scrotox could affect sperm count and quality, so it may not be the best choice for guys looking to have kids.
