Best Chanel Makeup Products
Why It's Worth It: Cakey foundation? We don't know her, especially when it comes to the No.1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation and its ultra-light, skin-like finish. This silky formula is similar to a skin tint and contains antioxidant-rich red camellia oil to leave your skin feeling moisturized and looking glowier than ever even after washing it off. Think of it as the antithesis of heavy, usually matte formulas.
Tester Feedback: "I'm extra picky about foundation and concealer," commerce editor Sarah Han says. "It has to give me buildable coverage but feel like nothing on my skin and I adore a somewhat dewy finish. No.1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation checks all of those boxes, and similar to No.1 de Chanel skin care, this luminizing, serum-like formula is spiked with red camellia oil so it blends into the skin so beautifully and seamlessly."
Available Shades: 27 | Who It's For: Anyone who wants light-to-medium foundation coverage
Why It's Worth It: If you're a TikTok beauty fan, the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream has probably popped up on your FYP. It's a luxe must-have for its creamy, buildable formula that glides onto skin like butter and blends effortlessly with a fluffy bronzing brush. The fan-favorite cream bronzer is available in three flexible shades that effortlessly blend into a wide range of skin tones.
Tester Feedback: "When it comes to Chanel's popular bronzer, it was love at first swipe for me," says Allure commerce writer Jennifer Hussein. "The shade I use, Soleil Tan Medium Brown, has a slight warmth that doesn't give my already tan skin an orange finish."
Available Shades: 3 | Who It's For: Any skin type and tone that wants a subtle warmth and glow.
Why It's Worth It: Reach sky-high length with the Le Volume de Chanel Mascara. Its thick yet clump-free formula paired with the unique, Chanel-exclusive tapered brush is a recipe for a longer, more voluminous look. One coat is all you need from this pitch-black formula for thicker, fuller lashes.
Tester Feedback: "What screams luxury more than a Chanel Mascara? The Le Volume de Chanel Mascara is great for creating volume and length on my lashes," says Allure shopping market editor Angela Trakoshis. "It's also really buildable, which is great for touch-ups on a night out when I feel like my lashes could use a bit more 'oomph.'"
Available Shades: 3 | Who It's For: Anyone who wants bolder-looking lashes
Why It's Worth It: Trust us, your digits deserve a fresh mani with one of Chanel's Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour shades. The 33-shade range has stunning high-shine finishes and a patent effect, kind of like a Chanel bag or pair of shoes. Once you apply, expect your fresh coat of polish to stay put without chipping.
Tester Feedback: Allure shopping director Shanna Shipin says this nail polish in the shade Chanel Rouge Noir marked her first foray into luxury beauty, and she's been a dedicated fan ever since. "What first grabs you are the shade offerings. There are the legends, from the perfect nude-pink 'Ballerina' to the quintessential red 'Pirate,' but what keeps me coming back are the seasonal shades," she explains. "They're simultaneously of-the-moment and classic; like 'Sun Drop' (seen above), a not-too-bright coral you can wear in spring and summer."
Apart from the shades, Shipin notes that these polishes have a long-lasting quality that beats other nail lacquers available. "I've used these polishes with and without base or top coats, and I've always been impressed by how long they last, even without any protective layers," she adds. "They also happen to make the perfect presents, and I always keep an eye out for the cute little nail polish bundles that pop up around gifting season."
Available Shades: 33 | Who It's For: Anyone who wants long-lasting nail polish with a vivid color payoff.
Why It's Worth It: No matter which of the Chanel No. 1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm's nine shades you pick, you can expect a radiant flush of color from each swipe. Each pot of this creamy cheek and lip color contains moisturizing camellia oil to plump and condition skin as you wear its long-lasting formula. Tobi Henney, a bi-coastal makeup artist, previously told Allure that this tinted balm is quite pigmented, so use a light amount of product when applying.
Tester Feedback: "I love a multipurpose product and lip and cheek tints are definitely at the top of that list," Han says. "No. 1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm has a buttery, red camellia oil-infused formula that easily transfers onto the pad of my (clean!) ring finger so I can dab away on my cheeks and lips. Even though it's a tint, shades like Berry Boost don't disappoint in the pigmentation category—I'm left with a pretty flush that I can apply and blend out with just my fingers, or if I'm not in a rush, a blush brush (I'm using Saie's The Double Brush in the clip).
Available Shades: 9 | Who It's For: Anyone who wants to add stunning color to their next makeup look.
Best Chanel Skin-Care Products
Why It's Worth It: You know a pricey cream is worth your hard-earned dollars when it's an Allure Best of Beauty winner. The Le Lift Pro Crème Volume nabbed our highest accolade in our splurges category for its skin-plumping effects, which can be attributed to ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate and hydrating glycerin. However, this nourishing formula's powerhouse additive is a Chanel-exclusive honey called melipona enzymatic. This proprietary honey is highly potent in antioxidants that reinforce the skin's moisture barrier and minimize signs of aging. Sensitive skin types will also love this cream for its fragrance-free formulation and soothing, cooling feel.
Tester Feedback: "Even though I'm only 28, my biggest skin-care concern is wrinkles, so I'll try anything that claims to stave them off," says Trakoshis. "The Le Lift Pro Crème Volume is a fragrance-free moisturizer that contains melipona enzymatic honey—an ingredient sourced from and harvested in Costa Rica—to tighten, plump, and boost collagen, so fine lines are not a worry."
Key Ingredients: Honey (melipona enzymatic honey), glycerin, shea butter, beeswax | Who It's For: Any skin type, including sensitive
Why It's Worth It: Formulated specifically for mature skin, the No. 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum addresses concerns like fine lines and sagging. Its main ingredient is red camellia flower extract, a powerful antioxidant that brightens, plumps, and smooths skin.
Editor Tip: Hussein recently added this serum to her skin-care routine and hasn't been able to put its bottle down—mainly for its sleek, innovative dropper bottle. "The silky formula instantly seeps into the surface of my skin and makes it feel soft and pillowy, but I'd like to give a round of applause to its gorgeous bottle," she says. "I know unsexy beauty products are currently trending, but life's short, so treat yourself to the sexy options, too. The twist top pulls serum into the dropper, and as someone who appreciates little sensory experiences, that's an added delight."
Key Ingredients: Red camellia flower extract, camellia water | Who It's For: Dry-to-oily skin, mature skin
Why It's Worth It: If there's one thing that every Allure editor can agree on, it's that wearing sunscreen daily (and reapplying!) is nonnegotiable in our skin-care routines and for overall health. We love that Chanel's UV Essentiel SPF 50 provides broad-spectrum SPF protection against the sun's harsh rays, but what makes it special is the creamy, blendable formula. This chemical-based sunscreen changes instantly from white to totally transparent, so a white cast will never be an issue.
Tester Feedback: Han attests to the quick-blending nature of UV Essentiel SPF 50. "In seconds, this lightweight cream disappears into my skin and leaves behind a dewy base for my makeup," Han notes. "Plus, the licorice extract gives my skin a brightening boost, which I'll never complain about."
Key Ingredients: Avobenzone (3%), homosalate (10%), octisalate (5%), octocrylene (5%), licorice root extract, blue ginger extract, Tahitian gardenia extract | Who It's For: All skin types (though we usually recommend mineral sunscreens for sensitive skin)
Best Chanel Fragrances
Why It's Worth It: The light pink color of Chance Eau Tendre Eau de Parfum is enough to convince Barbiecore enthusiasts to grab a bottle, but its eclectic blend of fruits and florals has all our editors coming back for more. This delightfully playful scent zhuzhes up notes of jasmine and rose with hints of zesty grapefruit and hazy musk.
Editor Tip: Chance Eau Tendre is a flanker version of the label's original Chance Eau de Parfum, which has a more floral, headier scent infused with notes like pink pepper, jasmine, patchouli, amber, and vanilla.
Key Notes: Jasmine, rose, grapefruit, musk | Who It's For: Fans of floral-fruity fragrances
Why It's Worth It: Warm, sweet amber is at the heart of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum, but that's not the only note you'll catch a whiff of. This full-bodied perfume also contains herbaceous notes of vetiver and patchouli alongside bright, juicy orange. It also happens to be an Allure Best of Beauty Award (and Readers' Choice Award!) winner, so if our editors love it, we know you will, too.
Editor Tip: "The first impression is almost splashy—a warm, sparkling mix of citrus and white flowers," one Allure tester wrote in 2015. "But when patchouli and vetiver notes emerge after a few minutes, the scent takes on a sexy, full-hipped quality that's a little mysterious and totally unique."
Key Notes: Jasmine, rose, orange, patchouli, vetiver | Who It's For: Fans of warm floral fragrances
Best New Launches We're Eyeing
Why It's Worth It: Consider Chanel's Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sun-Kissed Powder as the must-have multitasker of the summer. Open it to reveal a powder blush, highlighter, and bronzer in one handy compact. Sweep on any (or all!) powders to add more color and definition to your daily makeup look.
Editor Tip: If you prefer cream-based makeup, try Chanel's Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick, a multi-use glow stick that comes in four shimmer-laden shades for highlighting, sculpting, and adding a flush.
Available Shades: 5 | Who It's For: Any skin type or tone
Why It's Worth It: Chanel's Sublimage Le Fluide Emulsion is a lighter, mattifying alternative to the brand's best-selling Sublimage La Crème. Like this moisturizer's predecessor, its star ingredient is polyfractioned (as in, triple-filtered and therefore more potent) vanilla plantifolia extract, a botanically derived extract rich in fine line-smoothing antioxidants. Since the original formula has a richer texture, Chanel created this lotion-like emulsion (with the addition of roucou seed extract, a mattifying agent) for oilier skin types.
Editor Tip: The Sublimage Le Fluide Emulsion's mattifying, pore-blurring effects create the perfect no-pilling base for your sunscreen and makeup, too.
Key Ingredients: Polyfractioned vanilla plantifolia extract, roucou seed extract | Who It's For: People with oily skin
Why It's Worth It: Yes, the Chanel Les Exclusifs de Chanel Fragrance Body Oil is technically a body-care product, but think of it as a skin-friendly addition to your perfume collection. This scented body oil contains natural conditioners like jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils to soften skin—like a dose of quiet luxury for your body. Our favorite scent from the four-fragrance lineup is Coromandel, an amber-heavy aroma spiced with frankincense and patchouli.
Editor Tip: These fragrant body oils have a subtler scent so that they can be worn alone or layered with other oils and perfumes in your collection.
Key Ingredients: Jojoba oil, meadowfoam seed oil | Who It's For: People with normal to dry skin
Why It's Worth It: Freshen up your fragrance collection with Chanel's Chance Eau Fraîche Eau de Parfum, the latest iteration of the original amber-floral Chance perfume. This fragrance flanker of Chanel's original, amber-forward Chance [i'm not sure what this word means ← SH: Flankers are a variation of an original perfume, added a little more context!] has a sparkling citron- and teakwood-forward profile fitting for the upcoming summer season.
Editor Tip: Chance fans can indulge in three of the collection's top fragrance iterations (including Eau Fraîche!) for less than $100 by (literally) getting their hands on the Chanel Chance Perfumed Hand Creams set.
Key Notes: Citron, jasmine, teakwood | Who It's For: Anyone who wants a citrusy touch to their usual floral fragrances
How we test and review products
Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?
For our review of the best Chanel products, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, and contributors to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.
After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
